Good game. Didn't need a 60 min effort as they had pulled away. Not unhappy about it mind you, but looking to see that kind of effort in a closer tilt.

Wonder who starts in net tomorrow.

Liked what Downie brought tonight

Really couldn't have asked for more tonight.

Hey, pass to your teammate's stick instead of in his skates and good things start to develop!

So Grossmann is fine, but they're keeping their yaps shut. That better be good news. I HOPE that's good news. Y'know I'm just gonna take it as good news. He's really been such a steady guy for them this year.

Voracek, Giroux and Hartnell looked great, but yeah you could really see chemistry on the top 3 lines.

Tough task against the Penguins. Lose it and you're back another 2 points to a division rival. Win it and things start to really look up.

The official three-star selection for the game was a joke. Somehow, Mason got omitted and Ottawa's Clarke MacArthur was picked as the third star. Whether this was just a bizarre pick or something the selector in Ottawa intended as some sort of statement about a Philadelphia writer (the Daily News' Frank Seravalli) picking Ray Emery over Braden Holtby in the Capitals 7-0 win over the Flyers, I have no idea.

LOL. Writers that insert themselves into the story are kind of sad.

41 Robert Bortuzzo - 2 Matt Niskanen

Orpik paired with Deryk Engelland? Really?

Laugh at the Flyers defensive pairings all you like, but this one's pretty bad.

I haven't got much faith in the pairing of Letang and Olli Maatta aka the second coming of weberyoungtimmosubban-combined either. I see this being a high scoring match. Now we just need Fleury to be his good old self and we have a winning streak of three.

"Crosby has racked up 23 points (eight goals, 15 assists) through the first 17 games of the regular season. However, he has been held without a point in each of the last two games and has been goalless for the last seven matches."

look for cindy to get back on track tonite, the flyers are always a great tonic for his woes.

This was typical of the 3-star picks this year in Ottawa. There seems to be an obvious focus on making sure the home team dominates the picks. There have been other games where they were totally outplayed but still manage to garner one or two of the star picks.

He certainly does seem to get up to stick it to us.
I'm curious what his road/home breakdown is versus the Flyers. He seems to really like to stick it to us on our own ice.

Pens Flyers is always full of rivalry and battles after each stoppage in play. Pens due for a win, although Flyers beating a good Ottawa team shows progress.

Team health and continuity wins games. Pens have major defensive gaps with Martin and Scuderi out, but Philly D is poor at best.

It would be a good game to watch.

It was really nice to see the opposition be the team that was plagued by all the problems that have haunted the Flyers early this season: brutal giveaways, inconsistent effort, failure to convert scoring chances, losing the will to compete for stretches of time in the 3rd etc...

I was just looking at the current conference seedings and was struck by the disparity between East and West. I knew that the West was the better conference, but...

if you put Pittsburgh in the West right now, they're like the 10th seed. Of course, the Flyers would be the 1,000,006th seed..... lets not talk about that. I'm just going to enjoy the fact that the Orange and Black put a drubbing on the Sens last night.

Look no further....when the Flyers got drubbed by the Caps 7-0, and Emery jumped Holtby, Flyers' beat guy Frank Seravalli decided that Emery deserved a star of the game selection...nevermind that Emery let in 4 goals in about a period's worth of time.

It was a good effort. They need to continue to build off it and the Edmonton game. If they can keep playing with the same energy and effort they gave last night, they can turn things around and get to .500 in short order.

At the very least they can make themselves a difficult team to play against. Baby steps.

SHould be a great game, they usually are. I have to disagree with this one little bit...

"but Philly D is poor at best" - D hasn't really been our problem this year and we rank smack in the middle of the league at #15 with a 2.59 GA per game. This is not far off Pittsburgh's #9 and 2.35 GA and certainly is in the top half of the league.

Offense and continuity has been what has plagued the Flyers this year and they seem to be, lately, turning that around (knocks on wood). Either way, looking for a great game tonight.

The one night I actually go to a Sabres game, Philly ends up putting in one of their best offensive games all season. Ah well, i'll take it

The dmen haven't been awful in their own end, but in today's NHL you need your d to jump start your offense. They simply can't and it's a big problem

I hope Grossmann is fine, but it's nice to see Luke Schenn with 20+ minutes of ice time again. I thought he and Gustafsson looked very solid.

So did I. The Couturier line handily outplayed Ottawa's top line.

Wearing a shield is probably good for Downie since he has to concentrate on playing hockey, and can't get (his ass beat) in any more fights.

Disagree. I noticed him a few times, but for the most part he looked like a little kid who wasn't fast enough to make an offensive or defensive play.

I hear Rosehill got up before the Edmonton game and started giving the forwards pointers on how to increase their offensive output. Streit chimed in and gave the team a stern talk about commitment to solid defense. The pregame meeting was concluded by Gill showing off some power skating moves to help the players skate faster.
